COVID-19 pandemic | Historical trauma | Assimilation/Acculturation

Social challenges | Resilience

Asian Americans are a growing segment of the population, but there has been a longstanding deficit of funding and research, creating a lack of inclusion and understanding of the health burden and heterogeneity of subgroups by culture, gender and sexuality.

During the COVID-19 pandemic existing xenophobia and racism magnified against Asian Americans, on top of long-standing struggles with historical trauma and the model minority myth.

Health information has not been tailored for Asian Americans and this translated to lack of coverage and access to health services. They are also least likely to seek mental health help.

Asian Americans carry acculturative stress and children may need to play the burdensome role of a language broker. While they can be resilient, there can be a myriad of challenges simultaneously, such as caregiving, depression, discrimination, unemployment and intersectional issues.

Below you will find a sample of articles that showcase these issues.
